TwitTown Web Community - Designed and built by VisionTEN

April 25th, 2007

The TwitTown website brings together developers, users and fans of the Twitter communication platform. It allows community members to chat in the forums, read news on the blogs and also provides a repository for Twitter tools services and applications that are relevant to their community.

The site was designed in a simplistic but pleasing fashion while integrating web 2.0 features such as comments, linking, discussions, forums, bookmarking and blogs. The underlying platform is a a powerful Content Management system that has been customized by VisionTEN to suit the specific needs of TwitTown.

The site is already gaining traction and their community is growing quickly. We look forward to working with them to help the TwitTown site and community grow into the future.

The MiniMax Review website is live

April 13th, 2007

VisionTEN is proud to have helped MiniMax launch a new web service called The MiniMax Review. MiniMax is a high end subscription based service which is the first research platform that fully integrates economic and market research with ongoing education about the counterintuitive behavior of the economy and the financial markets. Some of their previous clients are governments, heads of state, investment banks, portfolio managers and CEOs.

They wanted a bold style that was also traditional looking to fit the likes of their discerning clientele. The site has an enterprise class CMS system that is the foundation for the subscription management, members, e-commerce and content management.

We look forward to working with MiniMax to help grow their web platform and business. We wish MiniMax and their subsribers success!

Open Source software acceptance in government and the enterprise

March 30th, 2007

Open source allows us to provide flexibility in the solutions we deploy for our customers and we have been providing enterprise open source solutions to them for some time now. Not all companies however see open source as a option due to many different factors, mainly perception. The fact is however, open source is already deeply embedded in the enterprise and now a days even more so in government and education.

The USA government has been on a “bug hunt” in open source sofware, they have been reviewing the code of 50 selected open source software packages over the last year or so. Their findings so far have concluded that open source code is actually better quality (based on flaws per line of code) than most propriatary software. Not only has the evaluation efforts identified the specific bugs, but the bugs have then been put back to the community to be fixed resulting in even higher quality code.

There has just been an announcement that the initial 50 software packages has been expanded to 200! (here is more info on this http://news.com.com/2100-1002_3-6171105.html?part=rss&tag=2547-1_3-0-5&subj=news )

We don’t know exactly what the implications for use or future use in the USA government will be yet, but can only assume that they are doing this in an effort to embrace, employ and maybe even mandate more open source software in their agencies, cities and states in the coming years.

In the meantime, this is great news for the quality of open source software and for enterprise open source software solutions.

New VisionTEN Blog

February 7th, 2007

We have done away with the old and in with the new.  The old Newsroom section of our website was not doing the trick for us anymore.  We want to have more of a conversation with our clients and potential clients so we have decided to replace it with this corporate blog.  In addition to being easier to find information, there is a search feature that is dedicated to news and blog and the other big improvement is the addition of RSS.

RSS usage has exploded across the web and the globe in the last two years and is arguably the easiest way to quickly scan websites for updated information.  Firefox for PC and Mac and Safari for Mac have RSS built in to the browser (Firefox you need to turn on ‘Live bookmarks’) and when you create an RSS bookmark (or sometimes known as a feed), it tells you when there is something new on each RSS site.  You can also download one of the many RSS readers from the Internet (search in Google).  It is brilliant and we use it extensively, daily.

You can get to the VisionTEN RSS feed by clicking on RSS Feed in the blog section of our website or you can enter the address and bookmark it manually.   http://visionten.net/blog/feed/
